Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke owe $7.4m to Marvin Gaye’s family for Blurred Lines snafu

A jury has awarded $7.4 million dollars to family members of the late Marvin Gaye, over claims that his music was copied by singers Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams in their song Blurred Lines.

Blurred Lines was one of the biggest hits of 2013.
The case has garnered plenty of media attention, with Williams being one of the music industry’s most successful and admired producers.

Thicke, at one point, threw Williams under the bus with claims that he was too messed up on drugs and alcohol to have played a role in any alleged plagiarism.
Gaye’s three children, who brought the lawsuit, were present as the verdict was read. Daughter Nona Gaye said, “Right now, I feel free. Free from … Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke’s chains and what they tried to keep on us and the lies that were told.”
Do you think the verdict was right? Did Thicke and Williams rip off Gaye’s Got to Give it Up?
